The Riverside Hideaway is Mike and Cathy Dillon's favorite place in the world, a charming but unapologetically rustic lodge located about 5 miles from the “Cowboy Capital of the World”, Bandera. The house is actually two comfortable vintage buildings, built in the early thirties and full of character. The main house has central air/heat, and a master bedroom with king size bed, plus a sun porch with two trundle (i.e. four twin or two king) beds. The guest apartment—adjacent to the main house--features two bedrooms, one king and one queen, with another bath. The apartment has no AC, just fans and space heaters. In total, the property sleeps ten, although because of the unique floor plan, it's equally appropriate for just a single couple. It is perfect for family getaways and vacation weeks, or for several friends just getting "out of town" for the weekend. We prefer to limit occupancy to 6 at any given time, although we’re willing to discuss it.
The house is on three acres of land about 5 miles from town, on the edge of a hill sloping down to the clear and sparkling Medina River, with winding stone steps down to the water. Tubing, canoeing, and swimming are truly right outside your door. (Because of the stone stairs, this property is not ideal for the mobility-impaired, elderly, or for toddlers—ask for details before booking.) The three acres are flat except for the riverside hill--great for games and stargazing. It has fireplaces in both kitchen and living room, outdoor chimney-style barbecue pit, swing set and sandbox, and a magnificent view.
Nearby Bandera is pure Texas fun with its cowboy dance halls, rodeos, horses, hunting, and hayrides. It is only about an hour to any of the following popular tourist destinations: Garner State Park, Fiesta Texas, Seaworld, Schlitterbahn, Lost Maples, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, and San Antonio. There’s a LOT to do and see! Or, take heed of the patio plaque that says “On this site in 1893, nothing happened”--and just relax and unwind beside the river.
2011 prices are $175 per weekday, or $400 per weekend, or $850 per week, plus 12% hotel tax. Some surcharges (for occupancy in excess of 6 people, for pets, and for excess butane usage in the winter) may apply; and if available at all, holiday, hunting season, and bike rally periods are always higher. Please note, Bed and Breakfast services are not available at the river house--it is a lodge-type rental where everything from bedmaking to cooking duties are up to the renters. Guests with lots of time to spend in the Hill Country often enjoy the experience of both the Crystal River Inn and the Riverside Hideaway--ask us for a package quote re including both in your itinerary.
|***Please note that Bandera Hideaway is not officially part of the Inn; it is Mike and Cathy's private residence. Many policies differ from the inn's, including payment and cancellation policies. To avoid problems, please be absolutely clear on these at the time of booking. The property cannot be booked online. Call Cathy directly at 512 787- 6294 to book or make inquiries.|
